Whitewater Rafting In Maine...

The Forks, ME  5/4/97  - On the first weekend in May, the hydroelectric dam controlling the water flow to Maine's Kennebec and Dead rivers opens to release the winter's snow melt.

This results in really big, really cold whitewater waves running at speeds 3-5 times faster than normal.  This was our last shot to raft some really big whitewater before leaving New England for North Carolina.

A shoreline camera catches the horror as I am catapulted back-wards into the frigid waters. Trying Desperately to hang on, all you can see of me is my right hand clinging for safety.

Shameless Plug Time...

I can't end this section without giving a big plug to my friends Chuck and Sharyn Peabody who own Crab Apple Whitewater in The Forks, Maine.  If you are ever traveling up in the New England area and want to have the best, kick-ass time of your life, let the guys at Crabapple show you New England Whitewater at its best!

Not only do they give you an experience that you'll remember for an eternity - you are treated like royalty as well.  My only real regret about moving south is that I am no longer a 3 hour to the most wicked whitewater in New England.
