Dorset is a county of great beauty, a land of contrast and
breathtaking scenery. Fronting the English Channel, Dorset separates
the United Kingdom from mainland Europe.
Our base of operations while in Dorset
was a beautiful bed and breakfast in the village of Piddlehinton
called
Whites
Dairy House. It was here we were treated to our first "traditional"
English breakfast by our hosts Liz and Robin Adeney.
When one thinks of San Francisco - the
bridge comes to mind. When one thinks of Paris - the Eiffel
Tower jumps into your head. Well... when one thinks of
Cerne Abbas
- one immediately congers up thoughts of a giant penis for it is here
the 180 foot Cerne Abbas Giant resides.
The Dorset coastline extends about 300
miles from Lyme Regis in the west to Christchurch in the east, and
offers a selection of some of the most incredible beaches to be found
anywhere in England... but bring a wet suit because the water is so
cold - you'll definitely freeze your nuggets off. This is where
we discovered the awesome beauty of
Durdle Dor, located near the town of Lulworth.
No visit to Dorset is complete without
visiting the village of
Moreton. Here is where T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of
Arabia) is buried. Especially beautiful is the hand etched glass found
in the Moreton Church. |
