Bath England

Bath is a medieval town located in England's West country" - just a stone's throw from Wales.  Bath's history dates back to the time when the entire area was under the control of Rome.

Roman legions and their guests traveled daily from London just to bathe in the incredible hot springs, hence the town's name... Bath.  It was thought to have great medicinal value but in reality was the festering ground for many local illnesses.

Bath is an impossible town to drive in.  The roads are narrow, street signs don't exist and people can't give decent instructions.  We did the smart thing... parked our car at the Elgin Villa (our B&B) and saw Bath by foot.

Bath England

On day two, of our three day stay in Bath, we hooked up with with Mad Max Tours,  Normally, Fran and I don't like organized tours - but this one was different.

Traveling in a small van, we traversed the English countryside for about an hour until we reached Stonehenge... the site of the famous, prehistoric stone pillars.  After doing some initial studying on the Druids and how they were believed to have built Stonehenge, I personally found it more engaging to believe in the rumors that extra-terrestrials were the masterminds of these geologic phenomena.

More impressive and significantly larger than Stonehenge were the stone monoliths in Avebury.  While Stonehenge was used primarily to worship the sun and the moon, Avebury was more dedicated to strong human themes.

And you know... what are small English towns famous for?  That's right, pubs!  So when I got bored looking at rocks... I bellied up to the nearest pub and ordered my fix of a pint Guinness.

English Villages - Castle Combe & Lacock
The last stop on our all-day tour were visits to two very quaint English Villages in the county of Wiltshire... Castle Combe and Lacock.  These towns were exactly what you would expect.  Click on the links and see for yourself.
