Scotland - June 17 thru 20

Even though we share the lame linguistic tongue... understanding the English and the Scottish can very difficult if not impossible.  And it also goes to say... the more alcohol these wonderful people consume - the less understandable they become.

After a mediocre (and supposedly First Class) flight on Delta Airlines, we landed in Glasgow Scotland.

Wrong sided driving is really scaryShock #1:  Wrong Side Driving - driving a car on the wrong side of the road whose steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car on roads better suited for bicycles, was very taxing on the nerves.  It took us 4 1/2 hours to complete a 2 hour trip but we finally made it... Oban Scotland.

Oban was our home for three days, staying at the Hawthornebank Guest House, a beautiful bed and breakfast just overlooking the harbor.  After three very rainy and cold days, the weather broke and it was time to head south, into England.

By this time, I was starting to get used to driving on the opposite side of the road.  Even stranger... I was beginning to understand what the hell the Scots were saying.

Lockerbie MemorialOn our drive south to England, we stopped at Lockerbie Scotland and visited the memorial to the victims of the Pan Am #103 disaster.  It was truly a very memorable experience reading the inscriptions on the plaques of the victims.

Andy's Assessment: Lush, very green, beautiful, cold, rainy, shitty food, great scotch, good beer, moderately expensive.
