Europe 1999 - The Internet Tour - June 17 - July 5

Most of you who read this will  understand what I am saying because you know me and my rather unusual sense of humor.  Those who don't know me will think that I am out of my 'freakin' mind.

In celebration of our 25th. wedding anniversary, Fran and I decided to cash in some of my Frequent Flyer miles and go to Europe for 3 weeks.  We started planning in April of 1998 because it takes that long to reserve your Frequent Flyer seats assignments.  So travelers beware - book early!

Where to go?  What to see?  Beats the hell out of me.  Massive amounts of research was needed in order to prepare for this adventure and the Internet was going to be my main source of information.

When Fran and I take a vacation, we like the freedom of going WHERE we want - WHEN we want.  Pure hell (as defined by Andy Browne) would be to  take a European bus tour with 60 decrepit blue hairs, carrying their portable oxygen containers and complaining about the food.  Organized tours suck.

Our goal was to visit the UK, Belgium and Germany - to see as much as we can in 3 weeks - doing it all by car, train and foot.  That's the American way!!

During the year of research, I had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people over the internet.  Many of these people counseled me on where to go and where NOT to go.  And during this year I made many new and long lasting friends.   Several of my new international friends offered their services as local guides in their city.  One very special family even put us up in their home for three fantastic days.

So before going any further (this is a long story)... go to the bathroom... get a drink then...
