Germany

Munich:  On the following day, we met my friend Karin who took a day off work to show us around Munich and the small Bavarian town of Garmisch.

Needless to say, the mountains were breathtaking.  Munich was much like other large cities; crowded and very trendy (at least the part of town where we stayed).

Within minutes of our arrival in Munich, I learned my first "real German" word... Einbahnstrasse.  Loosely translated it means "You stupid American tourist - why can't you learn to drive"  We got smart in Munich... we dumped our rental car and relied on Germany's fantastic public transportation to get us around.  So now, instead of taking 1 1/2 days to drive to Berlin, we hopped a high-speed train and made the trip in 7 hours ... drinking copious amounts of wine and eating my favorite food - wiener schnitzel - we arrived in Berlin very contented.
