Blizzard Paralyzes Charlotte!!!

Charlotte, NC - 12/29/97

With only two days notice, residents of Charlotte began to prepare for Mother's Nature's wintry onslaught.  This Blizzard of '97 began its rampage in the early hours of December 29.

With snow accumulations topping an inch or more in many parts of the city and wind gusts exceeding 6 knots, weather forecasters monopolized early morning TV and radio with  travelers warnings.

Residents began rushing to area shops to stock up on the essentials, leaving the shelves at most liquor stores completely bare.

The white flakes kept falling for what seemed to be an eternity.  Having only minimal snow removal equipment, Charlotte residents were held virtual prisoners in their homes until well past the 10:00am hour.

As the thaw began to set in, only the bravest of the brave emerged to begin the arduous task of rebuilding and clearing snow covered sidewalks.

As Charlotte residents continued to have accidents, driving actually became safer.  All the assholes were now off the roads.
