There is a reason why people living in Charlotte pay one of the highest
insurance premiums in the country. Some say it's the NASCAR
influence... all I know is my insurance rates went up after just moving
here from Boston. But worse... they skyrocketed the minute my 16
year old kid got his drivers license.

It was almost 6 months to
the day after having received his license that Mike had his first
accident. Thank goodness (for his sake) I was at a Jethro Tull
concert instead of home. At least he was not hurt but my car
was... $8,552 dollars worth of hurt.

What made matters worse
is that the accident was totally preventable. While on his way
home from the store, he decided to take a "side trip" He
figures... "now is my chance to have a little fun." He
was being a typical 16 year old asshole, driving too fast on an
unfamiliar road. Mike got spooked by an on-coming car, lost
control (because he was going 20 miles over the posted speed limit) and
ran into a barbed wire fence.
This will be a costly
lesson for him. Not only does he have to pay the $250 deductible
but also the first years premium differential when my rates go up next
year!!! |
