Fran Is Made Redundant!

April 20, 2001 - After 3 years of loyal service to her employer, Fran Browne along with 41% of her associates, were deemed a fiscal drain on the corporate bottom line.  Elated by the news, Fran actually volunteered to be displaced several weeks earlier when rumors of a layoff began to surface.  All of senior management from this "Johnny Come Lately" high tech company survived the layoff free to continue their irresponsible practices that put them in this position in the first place.  The company was quite generous with its severance package, giving all employees 5 months of salary continuation.

Although no firm future plans have been finalized, Fran's is seriously contemplating the launch of  her own Marketing Special Events company.  Stay tuned to The Browne Pages for more on this breaking story!

****** 2001 UPDATE ******

June 2001 - What a sweet deal!  While out of work just three short weeks, Verbatim announced to all employees that that would be receiving a 3% salary raise.  Since Fran was still regarded as an "employee", even though she was officially laid off, she too received her raise.  Don't cha just love our economic system!

August 6, 2001 - Well all good things must come to an end, and so did Fran's tenure at unemployment.  With three weeks still to go on her exit package from Verbatim, Fran landed a job at Stanley Tools' Doors Division, headquartered here in Charlotte.

But during her time of professional redundancy Fran was anything but redundant around the house.  In the short time she was home Fran was able to do most of the things she has been nagging me to do for several years such as...

  • Pressure wash and stain the back yard deck
  • Build an elevated frame for the back yard flower garden
  • Overhauled our vegetable garden to bring it back to life
  • Painted outside trim on the house

Not bad for an out of work broad... Now if I could only have gotten her to paint the ENTIRE house!!!
