Welcome Home Zak...
We didn't know it, but on November 18, 2002, something took place that would change our lives - AGAIN.  A little Yellow Labrador Retriever was born into a litter of 7 brothers and sisters. Destined to be a Christmas present for one of Fran's co-workers, on February 28, 2003, it was decided that the yellow lab, inappropriately names Scooter, needed a new home.  Fran called me to see if we wanted to take the dog home (as a trial).  I jumped at the idea.  But it was only going to be a trial... RIGHT?

Well... it was love at first sight.  Now four months old - our first chore was to give this pooch a real name.  Scooter is the name you give a three legged dog.  In an instant, we found the name that best suits the newest Browne family member... ZAK.

The big test was to see if Zak would get along with the resident king of the house... Duke, our 118 pound Chocolate Lab.  Within minutes, it became obvious - Duke and Zak were quickly becoming best buddies.  Duke took Zak under his tutelage, I guess to show him the ropes.

But within a few short weeks, Zak seemed to get the hang of things.  When not playing or fighting with Duke, Zak maintained his presence in the house by doing what most dogs do... SLEEP.

Over the course of six weeks, Zak demonstrated an uncanny level self control and obedience.  We decided to trust him and allow he and his chocolate brother to have free run of the house while we went to the movies.  On our return and much to our horror, we fell victim to the first ZAK ATTACK!

This playful pooch, while exploring new areas of the house, decided to go digging in one of Fran's potted plants.  We came home to mounds of rich, wet, black soil spread over 1/3 of the living room.  Zak was having a great time because he was still digging through the muck as we arrived home.  I'll bet Duke was laughing his canine ass off because isn't that's what big brothers do when little brothers get into trouble?

Fortunately for us, two visits by Stanley-Steamer did the trick and our carpet was restored (mostly) to its original appearance.
